Gabriel Picone

Professor in the Department of Economics at University of South Florida

Gabriel Picone is a Professor in the Department of Economics at the University of South Florida. He has been a visiting scholar at the University of York. He has received numerous awards for his teaching and research, including the Graduate Business Association’s Outstanding Professor of Economics award.

Dr. Picone has experience in consulting, including giving advice on deriving econometrics models to estimate price elasticities, site selection, and marketing strategies for the hospitality and retail industries.

Dr. Picone’s research centers around health economics. He has received numerous grants for his work and was one of the authors of book published by MIT Press, The Price of Smoking. He has published more than 25 articles in economics and health journals, including Health EconomicsInternational Economic ReviewJournal of Applied EconometricsInternational Journal of Health Care Finance and EconomicsJournal of Risk and UncertaintyEconometric TheoryEconometric InquiryReview of Economics and Statistics, and American Journal of Public Health, among others.

He holds a Ph.D. in Economics from Vanderbilt University and a B.A. in Economics from Universidad Nacional de Cordoba.
